The Guthrie BlueJays have won the Ardmore Festival the last two seasons, but this season there is no Donte' Foster or Keaton Callins on the roster. Guthrie, however, have a solid cast returning back to Carter County.

Day One

Guthrie 39, Yukon 40

The BlueJays will not win their third straight Ardmore Holiday Festival tournament after a last second three point shot off the back board from 6A's Yukon Millers to send the Jays into the opposite side of the bracket. The game winning shot was taken just across the mid court line by Shon Williams.

Guthrie (1-2) will now play Westmoore, who lost 62-36 to Ardmore in the final game of the evening, with a tip time of 12:20 Tuesday afternoon. The Jays will have played three 6A teams in their first four games of the season.

Yukon 12 6 8 14 40
Guthrie 1-2   Yukon 2-5

The Jays lead the most of the contest, but could not pull away from the Millers. After a 12-12 first quarter, Guthrie outscored the Millers 8-6 to go into the locker room leading 20-18.

Guthrie jumped out to a 6-0 run to start the third quarter, a 5-0 run to the end the quarter, and had a six point lead, 32-26, going into the final period.

In the first six minutes both teams had a hard time scoring, but Yukon held Guthrie to just two points while pouring in eight to tie the game at 34. The game was tied again at 37 and with two more points Guthrie held a 39-37 lead until the game winning shot to snap Yukon's three game losing streak. The Millers improve to 2-5 on the season.

Day Two

Guthrie 37, Westmoore 19

Guthrie got back in the win column for the second time this year with a convincing 37-19 win over 6A Westmoore as neither team got going offensively. Guthrie improves to 2-2 while the Jaguars fall to 1-6.

The Jays will play Southeast, who needed overtime to collect a 70-68 win over the Del City Eagles on day two after losing to Putnam City North on day one, for the consolation bracket.

Guthrie 7 6 10 14 37
Westmoore 2 7 3 7 19
Guthrie 2-2   Westmoore 1-6

The seventh ranked Jays jumped out to a 7-2 first quarter lead by holding the Jags no field goals, but Westmoore outscored the Jays 7-6 in the second quarter as Guthrie held a 13-9 lead at the break.

Guthrie finally got a little bit of offense going with 10 points scored in the third, and in the process held Westmoore to just three points in the quarter. Guthrie opened with a 10-3 run to open the game

The BlueJays continued to improve offensively in the game by scoring 14 points in the fourth, including a 6-2 run in the first 3:00, and held Westmoore to seven points.

Day Three

Guthrie 74, Southeast 43

Guthrie was sparked by a 10-1 run in the first five minutes to start the game as the BlueJays did exactly what senior forward B.J. McDonald said was going to happen.

"No more losses this week guaranteed," McDonald said after Yukon's Shon Williams game winning bank shot just inside the midcourt line on the first day of the tournament.

Guthrie won their final game of the Festival with a 74-43 win over the Southeast Spartans to win two of three games after winning the previous two Ardmore tournaments. The Jays improve to 3-2 on the season and the Spartans fall to 2-5.

Southeast 6 9 10 18 43
Guthrie 19 18 19 18 74
Guthrie 3-2    Southeast 2-5

The Jays finished the first quarter with a 9-5 run to go up 19-6, but increased that lead with a 7-0 run to start the second frame to go up 26-6 midway through the quarter. Guthrie led at the break 37-15 and seemed to find their shooting touch.

Guthrie scored 39 and 37 points in their first two games, respectively, and was able to reach that in the first half on day three against the Spartans.

However, the strong scoring did not stop in the third quarter, despite Southeast jumping out to a 10-7 run to pull within 44-25, but Guthrie finished the quarter on a 12-2 run to increase the lead back up to a 56-27 score after three quarters.

Guthrie continued to put points on the board in the final quarter with 18 and 74 points is the most points scored for the Jays this season.
