The Guthrie BlueJays have put themselves in position to win their second straight state championship by defeating Tahlequah, 54-39 in the state semi final round inside the Lloyd Noble Center.

Guthrie will play Tulsa Edison for the 5A title after the Eagles upset Booker T. Washington 54-53. The Jays-Eagles will be a rematch of last year's state semi final game. Guthrie escaped a last second shot to win it 50-48 at the Ford Center, in Oklahoma City.

The BlueJays are 5-0 in state championship games while Tulsa Edison is 0-4 in title games.

The Jays used a 10-0 run in the first 2:21 of the third quarter to open the game at 30-18. Tahlequah jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the Jays and a 12-7 first quarter advantage.

Kentrell Brothers finished with 18 points, Donte Foster added 13, and B.J. McDonald added 10. Junior forward Devon Hall was very limited after suffering an ankle injury in the win over Shawnee, Thursday night.

Guthrie (26-2) did not have their first lead until 3:30 to play in the second quarter on a Brothers 3-point shot and the Jays never looked back.

Guthrie held a slim 20-18 halftime lead before the 10-0 explosion out of the locker room. The Jays lead had ballooned by the end of the third, 38-25, Tahlequah could not get any closer then 11 points.

Guthrie is now 23-0 when holding opponents to 48 points, or less on the year.
