Jays throttle Piedmont

Chris Evans

Posted Feb 5, 2009

In the first game of the year between Guthrie and Piedmont, the Wildcats were able to stay close to the top ranked Jays, but the second time around was the complete opposite with a 63-37 thrashing of the Wildcats.

Guthrie (16-1) jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead and would add more on to that with 17 more points in the second quarter to go into the break up 39-17. The Jays shot 61% from the field in the first half on 19 of 31 shooting despite shooting 0-4 for 3-point land.

Donte' Foster, who missed the earlier meeting with Piedmont, finished with a game high 14 points as a total of 11 BlueJays scored in the game.

B.J. McDonald was named the A-Always Storage Player of the Game by throwing in 12 points and grabbing five boards.

Piedmont (8-10) would manage just four points in the third quarter and found themselves down 55-21. However, Piedmont made a surge in the fourth quarter by outscoring Guthrie 16-8, despite the Jays emptying their already deep bench.

Guthrie will entertain the Jets of Western Heights for a Homecoming game, on Friday night. Guthrie brought down the Jets in their first meeting 66-46, in Oklahoma City.
