Jays land in regional championship

Noble made a statement 10 days ago and Guthrie made a statement, Friday evening, by winning the first round of regional play with a 52-29 win over Noble.

 

text message bannerGuthrie (22-2) jumped out to a 9-0 run in the first 5:00 and finished the first quarter up 11-5. Senior Donte' Foster led the Jays with 6-points in the quarter and finished with a game high 16 points by making seven of 11 shots.

 

Junior forward B.J. McDonald's jump shot with 2:30 before the half gave the Jays their first double digit lead, 21-9 and the Jays went into the locker room leading 27-14.

 

Noble played Guthrie tough in the first 20 minutes back on February 17th. Guthrie only led 25-20 at the half before eventually pulling away and winning by 20 points.

 

Guthrie put the game away, Friday, in the third quarter by holding Noble to just two points while adding 11 points and finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to go up 38-16.

 

 

Keaton Callins scored six points in the second quarter and finished with 12 points in the contest. Kentrell

 

Brothers and McDonald added six points, Matt Hamilton had five, and Devon Hall and Chauncey Dumas each finished with 2-points.

 

Guthrie now plays the Southeast Spartans with a game time of 7:00, Saturday evening, at Guthrie High School. Southeast jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and finished with a 10-point win over Lawton MacArthur, 88-78. Southeast improved to 16-7 on the year while Noble finishes their season with a 4-18 mark.

 

The game can be heard on Triple Play Sports 105.1 FM and streaming live on Guthrie Sports Page. The pre-game show is set for 6:30 with Chris Evans, Casey Porter, and Chris LeGrande.
