In a much anticipated rematch, of two Top 10 teams in Class 5A, between Guthrie and Harrah had more in stake then the last time they played back in January.
However, just like on January 18th, Harrah, 4th ranked, would get a 59-50 win over the sixth ranked Jays, but this time won the first annual Suburban Conference championship game, on Super Saturday, at Western Heights High School Saturday night.
Harrah shot the ball tremendously well from the field, three point land, and free throws by shooting over 50% from the field and three point shots and almost 90% from the free throw line.
Guthrie did not shoot poorly, but not near as good as the Panthers. Despite the loss, head coach Pete Papahronis felt like his team played well and perhaps their best performance in their last five games.
Papahronis went on to say that their is nothing wrong with finishing in second place, although they expected to win the conference. Guthrie falls to 15-4 and now have lost three of their last four games. Harrah improves to 20-1.
Guthrie looks to get back on track this week before hosting regionals with a road game Tuesday in Noble and then Senior Night against Shawnee on Friday night.
All remaining Guthrie basketball games can be heard on Triple Play Sports 105.1 FM.
