No respect…

By: The BlueBird Insider

It is crazy how little respect the sixth ranked Guthrie Bluejays received from the coaches’ poll this week. The last poll taken was on December 25 and Guthrie had one game against a tough, yet unranked Stillwater team and the coaches ranked the Jays fourth.

The Bluejays then go to the Ardmore Tournament and beat an undefeated, fourth ranked, Southeast team, a one loss, eighth ranked Ardmore team, and a one loss, 12th ranked Del City team. The rankings then came out on the first of January and after all that, Guthrie drops three places to sixth in 5A. The BlueBird Insider would now like to show you the schedules of the teams that were ranked ahead of the Blue Birds.

#4 Bishop Kelley 6-0: Defeated a 1-6 Tahlequah, a 2-5, 19th ranked Bixby, a 2-6, 17th ranked Tulsa Central, and won a tournament against Mesquite Potect, TX, Frisco Centennial, TX, and Wylie, TX.

#4 Lawton Mac 4-0: Defeated a 1-4, 3A Riverside Indian, 1-4, 3A Elk City, a   7-3 Oklahoma City Storm (Home School Team), and a 9th ranked 3-1 Ada team (which is doing well by beating Ardmore earlier this season).

#3 Booker T. Washington 5-0: Defeated a 0-3 Tulsa Hale, a 4-3 Tulsa Edison, a 17th ranked, 2-6 Tulsa Central, a 2-3 Muskogee, and an impressive win against the 1st ranked East Central Cardinals.

            #2 Capital Hill 5-1: Defeated Class B 13th ranked, 11-4 New Lima, a 3A, 1-6 Oklahoma Centennial, a 4-5 Moore, a 1-3 Old Classen, and lost to #2 in 4A, 3-0 Star Spencer.

#1 East Central 5-1: Defeated 0-3 Tulsa Hale, 17th ranked, 2-6 Tulsa Rogers, won the Tournament of Champions, and lost to 3rd ranked, 5-0 Booker T. Washington.

After looking at the pedigree of the schedules you have to wonder if the coaches were voting on tradition, or on wins and losses.

Birdwatcher says:
Aren't "blue birds" and "blue jays" two different species of birds?

Chris Says:

I am certain you are right. When people call the St. Louis Cardinals the "red birds" is this correct or incorrect?
