300 x 200 GSP Ad The 2009 Guthrie Junior Jays baseball team capped off perhaps one of the best summer seasons in Guthrie history by winning the Red Dirt League Championship Tournament and finishing with a 29-5 record.

The Jays entered the 16-team field as the No. 2 overall seed and lost just one game in post season play to El Reno, but went 4-1 and 2-0 on the final day to secure the championship. The league of 32 teams was narrowed down to 16 for post season play.

Guthrie dominated the finals against Yukon with a 16-6 run-rule at Piedmont High School.

"Yukon ran out of pitching and we were able to jump out on them," head coach Casey Porter said.

"These kids worked hard all summer long and it's been one of the best groups I have been around and its not all about their play on the field."

Guthrie opened the tourney with a 12-8 win over a talented Tuttle team as Jacob Chappell got the pitching win. In the second game of pool play, El Reno surprised the Jays with a 6-5 decision.

The Jays then had their backs against the wall as they went up against Blanchard as the winner moved on to the final day of play. Hunter Adams got the call on the bump and delivered as Guthrie flexed their muscles in a 10-2 run-rule game that lasted six innings.
