The Guthrie Junior Jays baseball team would have like to seen Bishop McGuinness one more time on their turf, but the Jays walked away with the tournament championship over Stillwater instead, in the Guthrie Junior Jays Baseball Invitational held at Squires Field.

Guthrie got wins over Edmond Memorial (5-0), Stillwater 2 (14-0), Ponca City, and Stillwater. The only loss came to McGuinness, on Day 3, as the Irish scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win. Guthrie jumped out to a 5-0 lead, through four innings, and saw it disappear. However, Guthrie was able to tie the game up with a run in the top half of the seventh.

Bryan Dutton got the pitching win over Edmond and Casey Gates picked his up over Stillwater 2.

McGuinness and Ponca City each won their pool play, but neither team made the final game.

Guthrie entered the championship game with a win over Ponca City in the second semi-final game. Head coach Casey Porter was very pleased with the win over Ponca, who played

with some sophomores to be in the tournament. Hunter Adams picked up the win while Jacob Chappell got the save.

In the championship game, Evan Plagg got the start and win before giving way to Chappell and Dutton in the 13-4 run-rule shorten game.

The Jays will continue league play tonight (Monday) before playing in the Yukon Tournament this weekend.
