Jays swept away on opening day in Ardmore

By: Chris Evans

The first day of the Southern Oklahoma Spring Break Shootout wooden bat tournament did not go as plan for the 11th ranked Guthrie Bluejays.

The Jays dropped both of their games to Duncan and the host team Ardmore, and fall to 4-4 on the season.

In the first game, Duncan handed Guthrie a 11-1 decision and Ardmore turned around with a 9-1 run-rule.

Guthrie could only manage a run in each game. Against Ardmore, Corbin Crockett would single and steal second base as did Ashton Morgan behind him in the first inning. Justin Chappell would then ground out to the second baseman, but in the process picked up an RBI by scoring Crockett for the Jays only run.

Reed Downing, who moves to 3-0 on the season on the mound, controlled Bluejay batters in six innings. Guthrie managed just one more hit after the first inning off of Downing.
