Jays score 21 runs in regional win

By: Chris Evans

Within 10 minutes of the Guthrie and NW Classen baseball game the outcome was determined and the only item to be determined was going to be the final score. Result: 21-0 in a 5-inning run rule decision to open the first round of regional play at Carl Albert High School.

The Bluejays scored 7-runs in the first inning by sending 11 batters to the plate and taking advantage of three base-on-balls, one hit by pitch, and two Classen errors. In fact, Guthrie collected just one hit in the inning when Clayton Lawson took a pitch to left field for two RBI's.

Guthrie would pile on five more runs in the second and third innings and four in the 4th inning.

On the flip side, Guthrie starting pitcher Lawson and Corbin Crockett dominated the bats of the Knights. Combined the duo allowed just 2-hits and pitched to two batters over the 15 batter limit. In addition, each pitcher threw a very limited amount of pitches and will be available today if needed for head coach Jon Chappell.

The Jays will take on the host team, Carl Albert, at high noon today as the Titans got a scare from Noble, but won 16-9 in the first game of the day. Noble would go on in the third game and end the season of NW Classen by winning 12-1.

In the Noble-Carl Albert game, Noble would hold a 9-5 lead after four innings, but the Titans would have innings of 4, 3, and 4-runs in the last three innings to pull away.

The winner of the Guthrie-Carl Albert game moves onto to tomorrow having to be beaten twice, but the loser of today's game must turn around and play Noble in an elimination game.

Today's game will be broadcasted on Triple Play Sports 105.1 FM and will be carried on the internet. The internet feed was down for yesterday's game, but has been fixed. You can go to the Main Page, or the Baseball Page to find the link.
