Morgan, Hensley leads Jays over El Reno

        Senior pitcher J Hensley got the win on the mound for the Guthrie Bluejays and fellow senior Ashton Morgan help lead the offensive attack in a, 11-6 win, Suburban Conference game at Squires Field, Monday evening.

 

        Hensley and the Jays would surrender 6 runs in the first two innings including a 4 spot in the second inning, but Morgan and the Jays would respond with runs of their own in thier home half of the second inning.

 

        Guthrie's first two batters reached base before Morgan would send a shot over the wall for a 3-run round tripper to cut the deficit in half, but would be cut down even further on the next batter. Sophomore Jayden Chappell followed Morgan's homerun with one of his own to cut the lead down 6-4, and head coach Jon Chappell's team would cross two more runs across the plate in the inning to tie the game at 6-all.

 

        The Bluejays would take the lead for good in the fourth inning with two runs and three more in the fifth to secure the win.

 

        Morgan finished the night by going 4-4 with 4 runs batted in. Hensley when the distance on the bump and did not allow a single run in the games final five innings.

 

        Guthrie (5-5) travels to El Reno on Tuesday for a 4:30 first pitch before returning back home to take on 6A's Del City Eagles on Thursday. The Jays-Eagles game can be heard on Triple Play Sports 105.1 FM with Chris Evans, Casey Porter, and Scott Mick with the Dugout Show starting at 6:15.
