Guthrie baseball'ers off and running

By: Chris Evans

With five games under their belts, the Guthrie baseball team stands with a 3-2 record. The Jays and many Oklahoma high schools have lost a few games due to weather conditions.

Guthrie's most impressive win so far on the young season was a nine inning, 6-5, thriller over the Shawnee Wolves on the road, Tuesday night. JT Bross got the start and had a nice outing, but picking up the win was Clayton Lawson, in relief, after surrendering the lead.

Leading the way for Guthrie at the plate was sophomore first baseman Jayden Chappell, who had three hits including some deep fly balls that could of been easily homeruns at some ball parks.

The Jays dropped their contest with Kingfisher on Thursday night. Kingfisher comes off a state tournament season a year ago.

Guthrie got their second win on the season with a 10-1 run rule decision over Piedmont. The game opened the home schedule with a nice pitching outing from Corbin Crockett.

Guthrie returns back to the diamond at Squires Field, on Tuesday, when they host McGuinness with a 6:30 first pitch before heading off to the Ardmore Tournament beginning on Thursday. The Irish and Jays split a doubleheader on March 8th in Oklahoma City.

The game will be broadcasted on Triple Play Sports 105.1 FM with the Dugout Show starting at 6:15. Chris Evans, Casey Porter, and Scott Mick will have the call of the game.
