These boys just like to work

By: Marcus Seifert

“These boys just like to work” can be heard echoing through the confines of Squires Field these days around Junior Jays baseball right now. That voice echoing the catch phrase comes from head coach Casey Porter.

After a couple of weeks of hard practice following school ball, the Jays are picking up right where they left off by collecting two wins on Monday and two wins on Tuesday. Guthrie jumps out to a quick 4-0 start of the Red Dirt Junior High baseball summer schedule.

The Jays outscored the Demons 49-15 in the two away and two home game sets. Guthrie got strong pitching performances from Bryan Dutton, Hayden Seifert, and Landry Chappell all pitching near complete games.

Dutton, Luke Davis, Chappell, Seifert and John Clark have reached base an amazing 37 of 51 times for an on base average of .7254 in the four games. The Jays offense has been clicking from the first pitch, but they understand the season is young and there is always room for improvement.

The Jays will visit Enid to play in their Memorial Day Weekend Tournament before entertaining their own tournament next week. To view the bracket for the Guthrie Tourney please visit the home or baseball page.
